AUTHORITIES have no leads yet on the killing of a military agent and employee of the City Planning and Development Office in Barangay Aquino, Agdao District past 10 p.m. of Wednesday.
Based on the initial result of the investigation of PO3 Marlon Donquilab, Chris Anthony Tugle, 48, a resident of Camus Street was driving home on his white Honda XLR motorcycle when two unidentified men waylaid him at the corner of Vulcan and Tancontian streets and the passenger shot at him. But the victim managed to fire back using his .45 caliber pistol as the passenger jumped from the motorcycle and backpedaled to safety while the driver left him behind. The whole scene was caught by the closed-circuit television camera.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Mark who was sleeping on the makeshift hut near the barangay hall was hit on the left feet by stray bullet and was rushed to the hospital.
Sr. Supt. Ramon Apolinario, director of the Davao City Police Office, said investigators are currently reenacting the scene through the images recorded by the three cameras. “Sr. Insp. Ranulfo Cabanog has been trying to enhance the image to possibly identify the perpetrators and the plate number of the motorcycle. Unfortunately, the subjects on the video were hard to identify because of the distance,” Apolinario said at a press briefing in the Task Force Davao headquarters.
He disclosed that the investigation also looked into the profile of the victim, particularly his work, acquaintances, previous threats and other circumstances that might have led to the shooting incident.
“More or less 14 shots ang napabuto sa victim,” Sr. Insp. Ranulfo Cabanog, chief of Sta. Ana Police Precinct, told the Times in a text message yesterday evening.
Tugle was still conscious when medical rescuers rushed him to the Davao Medical Center where he expired around 11 p.m. that day.
Residents of the place gathered at the scene after the perpetrators fled but they quickly scampered when somebody shouted the gunmen have returned. A man wearing a black jacket and denim short pants was caught by the camera stealing the gun of Tugle. He was later identified as Alimudin Mualam, a resident of the place, who was arrested by responding members of Sta. Ana Police Precinct in a follow-up operation.
Seized from his possession was the firearm of the victim. ( mindanaotimes)
